GIS Technology Watch

Role of GIS in E&PKeeping track of new technology and trends can be incredibly time consuming, not to mention confusing, and at the 'bleeding edge' sometimes even painful! However, falling too far behind is never really an option.

Technology advice

At Exprodat we keep abreast of what's new so that we are able to continually align our offerings with industry requirements. Our internal R&D programme investigates the latest technology offerings, and its findings are shared internally with our staff, who also periodically meet at our internal Technical Workshops to dicuss new and emerging methodologies, standards or software.

In short, we are continually on a 'technology watch', and are therefore well placed to advise you where you have concerns related to future developments in the technological landscape.

The role of GIS in the E&P business

In 2007 we published a report entitled 'The Role of Geographic Information Systems in the E&P Business'. This study focusses on analysing the role of GIS in E&P organisations and proposes strategic thinking for making the most of a company’s spatial information and integrating it with existing E&P corporate data management systems.

The Technology Review section of the report covers both proprietary and open source systems, and investigates the technologies available in the following categories:

  • Desktop GIS
  • Server GIS
  • Mobile GIS
  • Globe software
  • Image processing packages
  • 3D GIS
  • E&P GIS-based data products
  • GIS standards.
