Geo:connexion interviews Exprodat's Technical Director for October 2010 issue
Since its formation, Exprodat has tripled in size and now works for some of the biggest names in the oil and gas industry. Geo:connexion visited their central London offices to talk to technical director Chris Jepps about how the company has developed, current marketplaces and the future.
In the following extract Geo:connexion asks how Jepps sees the use of geospatial technologies developing over the next one or two years:
“I’m certain we’ll see a continuation of the key trends - increasing uptake of GIS across the E&P industry, improving ease-of-use of GIS technology, and improved server and mobile GIS capabilities. I think we’ll still have the two distinct GIS user groups – GIS specialists who use desktop applications to do data management and spatial analysis, and the non-specialists who are happier using web-based GIS technology for data visualisation and query.
One new area I find interesting is the ability to support ‘crowdsourcing’ of data using web-based GIS clients. I’m sure that over the next couple of years we’ll see examples of oil and gas companies using this concept as a way to collate and share data...”
