FAQs
The following Team-GIS FAQ sections are provided as an additional support resource:
Team-GIS Software
Installation
Q. I get errors installing on Windows Vista.
A. Make sure you have disabled User Account Control before running the install.
Q. I cannot install the Team-GIS product due to "an old version" being present on the machine, even though I've uninstalled it already.
A. This error occurs if a previous version of a Team-GIS product was not uninstalled correctly or completely. To resolve this follow the procedure below:
- Open 'regedit' and navigate to the following location: "HKLM > SOFTWARE > Exprodat > TeamGIS"
- Remove the group for the product you have uninstalled:
- Acreage Analyst = 'DART'
- Directory = 'Directory' & 'LB'
- KBridge = 'KIO'
- Segment Analyst = 'SA'
Q. I cannot install the Team-GIS License Manager due to a previous version of Sentinel license manager being present.
A. This error occurs if a previous version of a Team-GIS product was not uninstalled correctly or completely. To resolve this follow the procedure below:
- Open 'regedit'
- Navigate to the following registry key: "HKLM > SOFTWARE > Rainbow Technologies > Sentinel RMS License Manager > Version"
- Remove the whole "Rainbow Technologies" group.
Q. How do I remove the Sentinel service?
A. Again, this might be required in order to remove remnants of a previous Team-GIS product installation. To do this follow the procedure below:
- Open a command prompt and navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\SafeNet Sentinel\Sentinel RMS License Manager\WinNT
- Type "lservnt.exe -X stop"
- Type "lservnt.exe -X remove"
Q. I get an error in the install - "Unable to get installer types in the..."?
A. There are two possible causes for this error:
- The latest ArcGIS Desktop Service Pack is not installed. To resolve this download the latest service pack from the ESRI website and install it.
- The .Net Framework libraries are not installed. To resolve this:
- Ensure your ArcGIS Desktop media (e.g. DVD) is in the drive.
- Go to 'Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs'.
- Click "Change" on the ArcGIS Desktop Install.
- Go to modify installation and then to the components dialog.
- Ensure that the .Net options is checked.
- If it is not checked you'll need to install this component by selecting the component and clicking "Next".
Licensing
Q. I get an error "E0002 -- Could not get a license/Unable to contact any servers"?
A. A pre-existing LSFORCEHOST environment variable may be stopping all Team-GIS products from being able to find a license. For further information see the Sentinel Environment Variables section in the online help.
Q. How do I get the locking code for my server/machine so that I can buy licenses?
A. There is information on how to do this here.
Q. I'm getting a licensing error message about 'time-tampering' - what's going on?
A. You have either changed the system clock in such a way as to try to bypass the license security (in which case shame on you) or you are trying to install an evaluation version or license the product using Standalone licensing on a terminal server (e.g. a virtual machine or Citrix server) .
Terminal servers can currently only be licensed using Network licensing: Standalone licensing will not work and will throw the "system clock has been modified" error. This means that the evaluation license cannot currently be used on a terminal server.
To license a terminal server correctly you need to:
- Set-up the Team-GIS license server with a valid Team-GIS product Network license.
- Launch Team-GIS License Manager [in 'Network (Client)' mode].
- Set the license server name.
Acreage Analyst / Segment Analyst
Q. My ArcMap Project file is becoming very slow to open and close down - what's happening?
A. Each time ArcMap runs a geoprocessing tool, information about the tool and its parameters is saved so that the user can recall the geoprocessing operations performed, modify them, and re-run them. Much of this geoprocessing 'history' is stored within the ArcMap project file, and as a result if the geoprocessing history becomes very long then the ArcMap Project (MXD) file will increase dramatically in size. Due to the complex geoprocessing undertaken in Team-GIS Acreage Analyst and Team-GIS Segment Analyst this can happen very quickly indeed. Exprodat recommends disabling the logging/saving of geoprocessing results. This can be done by accessing the ArcMap menu item 'Tools > Options', selecting the 'Geoprocessing' tab and then switching off logging and setting to never save the results.
