Terrain and Image Analysis for E&P

This course provides you with a general awareness of remote sensing and teaches you how to access and apply image and terrain data to oil and gas applications using Esri's ArcGIS Desktop software. When you complete this course you will have the knowledge and confidence to use remotely sensed data in your workflows and be able to more effectively liaise with remote sensing specialists

Data collected through the use of remote sensing techniques has many applications within the E&P sector. This course provides you with an awareness of:

  • Data availability, sensor capability and remote sensing processes
  • Image & terrain analysis techniques in ArcGIS
  • Interpretation & sector application (Geoscience, HSE, Engineering)

CPD accreditation

AGI CPD SchemeCompleting this course allows you to collect 7 AGI CPD points towards your professional development.

Pre-requisites

It is assumed that participants of this course will have completed an introductory ArcGIS course or acquired equivalent knowledge. Although petroleum exploration and production (E&P) sector knowledge is not required, this course is geared towards assisting participants to use terrain and remotely sensed data in E&P workflows.

Intended audience

Geoscience, engineering and HSE professionals and support staff who are going to be using terrain and remotely sensed data within GIS projects and need to be able to acquire the relevant ArcGIS skills and knowledge.

Features

  • E&P geoscience focus
  • Uses industry standard ArcGIS tools from Esri
  • Short 2-day intensive course
  • Hands-on learning by ‘doing’

Participants will

  • Import and enhance satellite image data
  • Classify and integrate image data into a project
  • Import and use Digital Elevation Models
  • Use the terrain modelling functionality in ArcGIS
  • Import LIDAR data and build a terrain dataset
  • Integrate terrain models and satellite image data
  • Display integrated remotely sensed data and terrain models in 2D and 3D perspective views to undertake ‘virtual geoscience mapping’
