Strategic SDI Decision Making Workshop

This module, which is embedded within the ArcGIS Data Management for Petroleum course, is an instructor led discussion and planning workshop on the ‘strategic’ issues around the development of spatial data infrastructure (SDI) in petroleum companies. SDI describes what is required in the development and maintenance of a GIS within an organisation, including software, hardware, networks, data, personnel, projects, and workflows.
Participants will be work through the issues in small breakout groups with the instructor posing challenges and encouraging participants to work through the issues. The purpose of this workshop is to make GIS practitioners within petroleum companies more aware of the issues that can reduce the effectiveness of GIS implementations.
Pre-requisites
Participants in this training module will already have some knowledge and skill with GIS and or other geospatial technology and wish to develop a better appreciation of the issues involved in development and implements systems. This course is geared towards assisting those participants to develop, or redevelop and implement a GIS within a petroleum company.
Intended audience
Any petroleum company staff and/or support organization staff who require a better understanding of GIS development, or redevelopment and implementation within a petroleum company. Personnel likely to be involved in future GIS projects within their organization will benefit the most.
