Exprodat Senior Consultant Ian Milligan will be teaming up with BP Lead Surveyor Walter Jardine during the ECIM 2012 E&P Data and Information Management conference to present a case study on migrating legacy seabed survey data to the industry standard Seabed Survey Data Model (SSDM).
Seabed survey data describes features on and below the seafloor. The data supports well planning, drilling and production operations – all expensive and potentially risky activities – and can cost millions of dollars to acquire. Identifying hazards on the seafloor that might jeopardise these operations is of huge importance to exploration and production (E&P) companies so it is vital that such data sets should be accurate, easy to use and easy to share. In recognition of this in 2011 the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (OGP) released the long awaited Seabed Survey Data Model as an industry standard framework for managing and utilising such data.
The ECIM E&P Data and Information Management Conference is known for its workshops and ‘Best Practice’ presentations from the oil and gas E&P industry. In 2012 the conference will be held between Monday 10th September and Wednesday 12 September 2012 in the Norwegian coastal town of Haugesund. In three days the conference will bring together over 300 E&P Data and Information experts.
Talking about the forthcoming SSDM presentation, Chris Jepps, Exprodat’s Technical Director, said “The ECIM audience should be getting more and more familiar with SSDM, which was created to ensure a consistent framework for acquiring and managing valuable seabed survey data. This talk focusses on data that pre-dates SSDM and explains how Exprodat worked together with BP to extract and migrate this ‘legacy’ data to the SSDM format over part of the North Sea.”
Exprodat, the petroleum GIS specialists, works with oil and gas companies around the world and provides expert advice based on in-depth knowledge and experience of working within oil and gas companies.
