London, United Kingdom, 22nd October 2009 – Exprodat today announces the release of version 200 of Exploration Analyst, unique software for performing petroleum block ranking and company portfolio analysis. With Exploration Analyst petroleum E&P companies can dramatically shorten traditionally paper-based workflows in order make data driven decisions and improve exploration portfolio management.
Exploration Analyst is a powerful extension for ESRI’s ArcGIS that enables geoscientists to analyse acreage based on multi-disciplinary asset data (e.g. geology, environment, economic, infrastructure, etc.) and define scoring and weighting criteria in order to rank opportunities, perform company analyses and develop portfolio investment strategy. With Exploration Analyst companies can reduce technical uncertainty, better understand portfolio risk and make better decisions faster, as well as implement consistent and auditable exploration processes through time and across assets.
Exprodat’s Technical Director, Chris Jepps, says, “The primary aims of the version 200 release of Exploration Analyst were three-fold: to enable users to complete an entire ranking workflow within the software, to extend the analysis capabilities and to slash the amount of data preparation required before using the software. As such we’ve added powerful reporting, graphing and data export capabilities, made the scoring schema completely flexible and introduced the concept of ‘showstopper’ criteria.”
“We’ve also added a host of new analytical features such as on-the-fly filters and the ability to sub-divide the base acreage layer into a user-defined grid, allowing geoscientists to analyse large areas such as international blocks or even entire countries at their chosen resolution. With the additional improvements that we’ve made to performance it is now possible to shorten a process that manually would have taken weeks into just a few minutes. We believe that this will enable E&P companies doing regional-scale analysis to rapidly perform block ranking iterations which will significantly improve their final decision quality.”
Exprodat’s software suite is made up of a number of extensions to ESRI’s ArcGIS Desktop that provide ‘out-of-the-box’ functionality designed specifically for the needs of the petroleum sector. The software is data independent and allows E&P companies to integrate vendor data with in-house datasets for use in GIS-based spatial analysis.
ArcGIS is a scalable family of software products comprising a complete geographic information system (GIS) built on industry standards. ArcGIS is used for the creation, management, integration, analysis, display, and dissemination of spatial data. Visualization, editing, and analysis, along with advanced data management, distinguish the ArcGIS software family as the leading GIS software. Much more than a specialized offering for a small niche of specialists, ArcGIS is designed as a scalable system that can be deployed in every organization, from an individual desktop to a globally distributed network of people.
